Overview

Join us on a circular walk up and over a number of hills behind Largs around Gogo Glen with great views across the Clyde Estuary. Also including a couple of historical sites in the area.

The walk starts with a stroll along the promenade, through some formal gardens followed by a short strenuous climb up a hill and a flight of steps to a viewpoint where we will stop for a snack.

The rest of the outward section of the walk is undulating with a couple of steep sections. It goes over Jock’s Castle, Rigging Hill and Paton Hill. Underfoot is typical peat based grass which in a number of places is very boggy and squelchy.

Weather permitting we will have lunch on one of the hill tops or once we reach the track if we need shelter.

The inward section of the walk is on Forestry Commission access roads and gravel tracks. Then we head up the last hill of the day, Auchenmaid Craigs where we will have a final snack stop. This hill track also has a number of steps. From there we will descend back down into Largs.

This is a circular walk and we will return to Largs train station from where there is a regular hourly service back to Glasgow. There are plenty of cafes and pubs for a refreshment stop before heading back to Glasgow.
