There are no disruptions listed so far so I think we will be AOK.
There is potential for confusion for this journey so take care. On the outward journey you do not get off at Marple even if you have bought the recommended return to Marple but must stay on until Romiley. We get off at Romiley where we get on a second train to Guide Bridge.
9:14 Manchester train to Guide Bridge (change at Romiley).
Route: Ashford Canal to Portland basin where three canals meet and terminate. We cross the River Tame to the Peak Forest Canal towpath then to Marple via the towpath, the aqueduct (highest in England) and an impressive flight of locks.
We go through Woodley Tunnel which is unlit though with a protective hand rail. Bring a torch if you can or at least a mobile with a torch
The walk is pretty flat so a gentle introduction to the New Year.
Tickets are complicated. Best to book on-line or at the station a few days in advance.
The most convenient ticketing is an all day return to Marple and an advanced single from Marple to Guide Bridge.
The cheapest option seems to be an advanced single to Guide Bridge and an advanced single from Marple but they can only be used on specified trains.
