Overview

This walk takes in some of the quiet Chilterns countryside around Braziers Park after the social there; an area that feels surprisingly empty and remote, given how close it is to Reading.

Advance booking is not required, but if you plan on attending this walk, please indicate this on Meetup if you can (see Website link), so others can see that there will be plenty of people going.

Pace: medium.

Walk details

Please note if you have attended either of the previous Snowdrops and Bus Stops walks: this year is a new route!

Starting from outside Braziers Park, we'll head further along Braziers Lane and into the woods. Emerging near to Well End, our route onwards up the valley will be dominated by the Bond-villain-style house high on the hillside that is home to Rowan Atkinson. We’ll then head through Mongewell Woods and Wick Wood to approach the pub stop at the King William IV along the Chiltern Way from the north.

The King William IV is a good opportunity for anyone who drove to leave the walk to return to their cars. For everyone else, once suitably refreshed, it is around a 30 minute walk from the pub to the bus stop. Return buses to Reading (or Wallingford) run every 30 minutes on a Saturday.

Travel details

By public transport

If you plan to attend the snowdrop tea social before the walk, please follow the transport directions for that event.

If you do not wish to attend the social, but wish to attend the walk only, please travel on the Thames Travel X40 bus leaving stop SB on Station Road in central Reading at 11.35am. The walk leader will not be travelling on this bus as he will be at the social. The stop to alight at is Braziers Park Turn, which is the first stop after Woodcote. This is around a 10 minute walk from the walk start point - please cross the road and walk in an easterly direction along Braziers Park Lane.

By car

Please park considerately near to either Braziers Park or the King William IV if travelling by car. The shortest walking route between the two is just 1.3 miles.

Dogs

Dogs welcome on this walk, provided they are kept under control at all times and placed on a lead when requested by the walk leader.

Please see our dogs policy on our group website for more details.

Notes
