Overview

The welcome for this walk will take place in Middleton in Teesdale at the fountain. Toilets are available nearby. We start the walk by joining the Pennine way by crossing the River Tees , then follow the river all the way to Low Force waterfall before ascending to Holwick and upwards beyond the imposing Holwick scar onto Crossthwaite Common for stunning views of the Teesdale valley. Crossing Harter fell to rejoin the Pennine Way back to start point.

There are a significant number of stiles and gates along the route especially along the river section. There is a long ascent from the river to the highest point we reach on Crossthwaite common. The overall height gain of the walk is 1228 feet.
