This is the 12th leg of our route along the Thames river. You do not need to have walked any of the other stretches – you are welcome to come along just for today! Dogs on leads are welcome.
We'll meet outside Goring and Streatley railway station at 11am.
This is a linear walk, finishing at Wallingford (home of Agatha Christie until her death in 1976) after around 8 miles.
For the first part of the walk we will follow the Ridgeway national trail which runs parallel to the river Thames. The trail takes us through some beautiful Oxfordshire villages and hamlets. Think classic country cottage gardens and manor houses.
Along the way we'll pass under (yet another!) railway bridge designed by the Victorian Civil Engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel before heading to North Stoke where we'll pop into the gorgeous Norman church to view the medieval wall paintings (https://langtreechurches.org/galleries/north-stoke-church/)
After Carmel college - a boarding school which fell out of use in 1997 -we cross the river to follow the Thames path into Wallingford, where we'll stop for a late lunch. Plenty of eat/drink options in Wallingford or bring your own packed lunch.
Buses from Wallingford to Didcot Parkway, Oxford and Reading for onward train journeys.
On the recce, we got the bus to Didcot Parkway which cost £2.
N.B The M25 between junctions 10 and 11 will be closed from 9pm Friday 12 July to 6am Monday 15 July 2024.
