You do not have to have done any of our Thames Path walks - you can just join us for the day if you prefer.
We will meet outside of Kingston Station and make the short walk down to the river. There are lots of shops, food options etc in Kingston if you want to arrive early. Dull facts about Kingston – Saxon kings were crowned here – and it was the starting point for 3 Men in a Boat. For the first time we cross the river – the first part after Kingston is on the north bank! After 3 miles we come to the famous Hampton Court Palace – we walk alongside it and have great views in. We switch back to the south side into the town of Hampton Court – it has great food and coffee options. Given we will be only 3 miles in we will try to stay focused and walk on... We then have great flat but scenic walking through Sunbury Lock and then onto Walton. Walton famous for being – the birth place of Julie Andrews! It also has the newest bridge across the Thames – opened in 2013.
The plan is to stop for lunch at the Marina Boathouse – after c8miles. We then continue from Walton to Shepperton Landing. At this point we need to cross the river by ferry (cost is £2.50). There is a really good coffee shop on the other side though with great ducks…. We then go onto Chertsey – again pleasant enjoyable walking although lots of background noise from local major roads.
We finish today at Chertsey Bridge – but we have a further 1.5 miles to get to the station (this is included in the mileage). From Chertsey station the best approach is to change at Weybridge for trains back to Waterloo. It will take c55 minutes and cost £12.50. Chertsey is in Oyster zone 6. Dogs welcomed and walking boots recommended - it could be muddy...
