Parking is free at the layby. About 10 minutes into the walk we arrive at a toilet (just one) beside Taxal church which I intend to stop at. It is free but does have a donation box.
We walk uphill, often steeply, for most of the morning, so the walk is not suitable for anyone who struggles with hills. What we do have is some fantastic views from Taxal Moor and our walk along Taxal Edge. We then descend and encounter a bit of a tricky river crossing for which I would recommend poles though there are plenty of rocks and the water is fairly shallow. We pass the ruins of Errwood Hall then the walk becomes quite flat and scenic along the shores of Errwood and Fernilee reservoirs. We then have a pretty walk beside the river Goyt to finish with.
Underfoot is mostly rocky paths with some tarmac and road sections.
