We are the Eastleigh Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
This is walk Two of Two. The party will get the No 3 Bus from Sandown to Ventnor (£2 or bus pass) and walk back. From the centre of Ventnor it is through Cowlease before descending down to the promenade to walk to Bonchurch. Here there will commence a very steep climb up Bonchurch Down passing Bonchurch's old and new churches. Having gained the height the lovely views from Luccombe and St Martin's Down can be enjoyed before the descent to a short section of disused railway into Upper Hyde. Then it will be the Autumn colours in America Wood and through Ninham to Sandown Airport and then back to the starting point. The intention is that the party should then return to the mainland. IF YOU WANT TO DO THIS AS A DAY WALK - let the leader know and the best option is to go across from Portsmouth Hoverport at 8.30 to Ryde, walk to Ryde Esplanade Station (7 minutes) and take the 9.14 train arriving at Shanklin Station at 9.37 where those staying overnight will be arriving at the station on the 10.05 No 3 Bus so join them on it to Ventnor (this time may change as the timetable is not yet available)..
Meet at 9.25 at the entrance gates to the Broadway Park Hotel in Melville Street if you have stayed overnight. There will then be a short walk to The Heights bus stop to catch the 9.52 No 3 Bus to Ventnor (this time may change as the timetable is not yet available). There is no refreshment available on the route so make sure you have sufficient food and drink to last the walk. Explorer Map OL29.
