We start the walk in Anston Stones Wood, then make our way to Woodsetts before crossing Lindrick Golf course. At the other side of the A57, we walk across Lindrick Common to Monk Bridge and then cross the Chesterfield Canal to reach Thorpe Salvin. We walk along Lady Field Road before crossing the canal again at Thorpe Bridge to make our way back to the start in South Anston.
The walk through Anston Stones Wood is on clearly marked paths with mostly good surfaces, though rocky in parts. The rest of the walk is mostly through fields, with an occasional wood, on tracks and lanes with generally smooth surfaces. We do have to cross Lindrick Golf Course, so we need to watch out for stray, flying golf balls.
Be warned: this is a hill-free walk. Well, almost!
Catch the X5 bus at Stand C6 in the Interchange at 09.30. If coming by car, park in South Anston and meet the group at the bus stop opposite the Leeds Arms pub on Sheffield Road at 10.15.
We should finish at about 15.30 and there is a bus returning to Sheffield at 15.51. Fortunately, this week is half-term in Rotherham so we will not be sharing the bus with half of the pupils from a nearby secondary school, which reduces the need for ear plugs.
