A great walk in high country with wild moorland, beautiful river valleys and spectacular countryside. Starting from the free car park at Gradbach, we ascend to the moors, crossing the A54 Buxton to Congleton Road and down to the unusually named hamlet of Wildboarclough. We walk in the lee of Shutlingslow (otherwise known as the Cheshire Matterhorn) before turning to ascend steeply up the valley of Cumberland Brook, taking in a number of waterfalls, before emerging onto the high moorland of Danebower Hollow with great westerly views. We cross the A54 again, descending steeply into the spectacular Dane Valley, following the Dane Valley Way southward to Three Shire Heads, a memorable beauty spot where Staffordshire, Cheshire and Derbyshire meet. We then continue to follow the Dane Valley way back to our starting point.
