Meeting Point is by the playing fields at Wall where the public toilets are.  Cars can be parked at the side of the road by the playing fields, alternatively, just after you have passed through Wall Front Street heading out towards Chollerford, there is a layby on the left which can hold approximately 10 cars – no parking fees in either location.

Walk Details: This is a very picturesque walk, however there is a steep incline at the start taking us to the top of the hill made up of part steps and part grassy hillside.  Along the route there are 10 stiles, some wooden ladder steps others stone wall steps. There is also a section of main road (B6318) that we must walk along for approximately 200 metres.

This is a 5-mile circular walk starting from Wall playing fields into the village centre then up the hill to an iron age settlement. Views over Wall and onwards to the North Pennines. Crossing several fields, we eventually come to Written Crag from which the quarried stone was used to build Hadrian’s Wall - which in turn was used to build some of the houses of Wall.

We later come to the quaint church of St Oswald’s it is open all year round.  Inside the church there is a roman altar and a display telling the story of Oswald’s defeat of the Celtic forces of Cadwallon in AD634.  During Oswald’s 8-year reign he promoted the spread of Christianity.  The views from the far side of the church are spectacular with Kielder Forest, The Cheviot Hills and Simonside being visible.

From the church we walk towards Planetrees where a small section of the Roman Wall stands. From here we cut through a small woodland and onto a side road back to Wall.

After the walk there are various cafes in Hexham, Corbridge or at Brocksbushes off the Corbridge round-a-bout.
