This is a nice easy 5 mile walk that is predominantly flat and on a pathway along the Hadrian's Wall Path and the Coast to Coast walk. There are no stiles to cross but there are 3 roads to cross along the route but these are quite quiet.
We will start the walk across the road from the Segedunum Roman Fort (as the pathway is currently dug up on the Fort side). From there we will walk down to the old rail line where we will walk a very straight route towards Newcastle. We do follow the River Tyne but at this point we won't see much of it until we reach St Peter's Basin.
We pass through Wallsend along to Walkergate then onto St Peter's Basin where will will walk along the pathway directly next to the River. This is a fairly exposed bit of the walk and can be windy depending on the weather. Once we pass St Peter's we will then walk along to join Newcastle Quayside there the walk will end.
Everyone will be free to have a wander around then you can either walk up from the Tyne Bridge along Dene Street to the Monument Metro Station or get the Q3 yellow bus up the hill.
There are several areas where you can park near to Wallsend Metro, there is on street parking (no restrictions) on Carville Road w3w exams.apply.drive or surrounding areas.
There are no toilets at the start of the walk.
Lunch stop will be weather dependant but there are lots of seating areas along the walk.
There are good paths all along the walk but some areas have been covered in mulch from leaves falling and if it has been particularly cold/wet some of the paths may be slippy.
At the end of the walk there are a lot of bars, cafes and restaurants for refreshments.
