Overview

Meet outside of the Walpole Bay Hotel, Fifth Avenue, Margate. There is plenty of free parking close by on Palm Bay Avenue. For those wishing to travel by public transport it is a 40 min walk along the sea front past the Turner Art gallery from Margate Station and there are also buses that run along Northdown Road (a couple of blocks back from the Palm Bay Avenue).

The walk will head east along the sea front along the King Charles III path passing Palm Bay to Botany Bay. There we will head inland towards Northdown and pick up part of the Dickens and Turner walk passing Drapers Mill before heading to the cemetery where we will visit Ray’s grave to pay our respects.

The walk will mostly be on paved surfaces.

Please bring a picnic lunch for our lunch stop.

After the walk, those who wish, can have tea in the Walpole Hotel. Costs are £4 or £5 pp for tea/coffee or £10.50 pp for a cream tea with either.
