Start: 10.00 am. Holehouse Lane CP, Whiteley Green (FOC), SJ92707893 SK10 5SR, 53.3073N 2.11101W,
This walk is prior to the ECR mid-week Christmas lunch at the Legh Arms Toby Carvery (12.45). It is under 5 miles easy/moderate with an ascent of 700ft. The main hills are up from Holehouse Lane to Long Lane and up the Gritstone Trail past the base of White Nancy. Depending on the weather, there may be ice on the roads or mud (particularly up the field between Sugar Lane and Long Lane), but mainly good underfoot.
Route (map available): via Winterfold Farm to Long Lane, down Long Lane (avoiding muddy Cockshead Hey Farm field), cross Shrigley Road, Ingersley Road, Mill Lane, Gritstone trail past base of White Nancy, Dawsons Farm. Return via Canal and Middlewood Way (My preference being to use the much nicer woodland path above the Middlewood Way). It takes approximately 6 minutes to drive from Holehouse Lane to the Legh Arms via Sugar Lane. Should leave plenty of time to get to the lunch. Bring drink/snack for coffee stop. No toilets or public transport. Any queries contact Melanie 07854 093785.
