Moderate grade, 9 miles Medium Walk.
Meet at Hawkshill Road car park, the free one behind the pay one.
Now then, this is a brand-new walk, first time out, exciting stuff. We will head towards Stoney Middleton, passing sites that made the village famous, such as the Plague Cottages and the Boundary Stone, to count but two, and then pass one of only two octagonal churches in the country, St Martins. Our route crosses the River Derwent to Froggatt and we begin our run to the north, taking the Derwent Valley Heritage Way. This part of the walk is Easy, along the river and woods to Leadmill bridge where we cross and begin our run to the south. A small bit of ascent to Leam, where we have lunch, then across Eyam Moor and the road to Mompesson’s Well and its back to the car park.
Had a lovely day for the recce, let’s hope for same on the day, it’s about 9 miles using that old string on map technique again, and it’s moderate, we get all the climbing bits done either side of lunch.
If your groups walk is fully booked come along, don’t forget to bring a flask and packed lunch, we stop once for a drink and once more for lunch, and set off at 10:00 a.m. with whoever has turned up - so don’t be late. Any queries better call Paul on 07568712197. Let’s go guys.
PLEASE CHECK OUR WEBSITE ON THE DAY FOR ANY CHANGES TO THE WALK. NB Finish times are intended as a guide only. You do not need to book a place on this walk.
