It’s summer, the days are long, take the opportunity to go a bit further afield before winter drags us back to the glutinous, chalky West Wiltshire mud!
A walk through the former gravel pits (as celebrated by Wordsworth!) near Swindon, now being restored to nature. The walk starts at Ashton Keynes initially following the infant Thames to Neigh Bridge, then meanders through the lakes and woodland to Somerford Keynes and then around and back to Ashton Keynes. Virtually flat with a mix of open skies and shaded woodland. Two lovely churches (including a nicely reconstructed Norman chancel arch…bet that’s sold it to you!).
Some areas of longish grass and brambles etc. Longer walking trousers suggested to protect legs from scratching and possible insects. Poles will be helpful. No restrictions on dogs in the area so they are welcome. Owners just need to observe any instructions to put them on leads; and take usual care when passing areas of open water. Two stops for coffee and lunch.
Please note: the Finish Time is an estimate and may vary.
