Overview

Joint with Hampstead Group.

Linear walk to Sandling: a moderately paced, undulating 13 mile walk, most of the route follows the escarpment of the North Downs with wonderful views over the surrounding countryside, and over coast and sea in the afternoon. We pass the Wye Crown Memorial, the Devil's Kneading Trough, the Brabourne Downs, Stowting, Farthing Common and Tolsford Hill, before descending to Sandling. The route is the reverse of a Saturday Walker's Club walk, Sandling to Wye, which can be found on their website if desired.

Lunch: Picnic - please bring all the food and drink you need with you, there will be a picnic lunch stop.

No drop-out points.

Meet at Wye Station at 11.02.

Travel: direct train from Charing Cross at 09.34, calling at Waterloo East at 09.37, London Bridge at 09.43, Sevenoaks at 10.08, Ashford International at 10.56 and arriving at Wye at 11.02. Check trains the day before. (It is possible to reduce journey times by taking the high speed service from St Pancras, and changing at Ashford to catch the slower train from Charing Cross, but this is a more expensive option.)

Ticket/Fare: Buy a super off-peak day return to Sandling, advice from ticket office and train conductor is that as return fares to Wye and Sandling are exactly the same, an inspector would be happy with an explanation; there are no barriers at either station.

Finish: Sandling Station - EFT 5:30pm.

Leader: Pamela C - Mobile: 07538 509 205.
