Starting at the Anglers Country Park (a water filled open cast mine) near New Crofton we walk through Haw Park wood to the abandoned Barnsley Canal which we follow for several miles to Royston. After Royston we climb to the view point on top of Rabbit Ings Country Park which occupies the site of a former deep coal mine waste tip. A short road section brings us to the pretty Felkirk Church for our lunch stop. At Felkirk we join an abandoned railway line which we follow for several miles through open countryside and the old mining villages of Ryhill and Havercroft. Leaving the abandoned railway we enter Anglers Country Park and walk by the lake arriving at the car park where we started.
Car parking costs £4 and can be paid by cash or card at the Pay and Display. Toilets and cafe at the start and end of the walk. Unfortunately no pub stop, not one to be seen on the route.
Walkers are reminded it is their responsibility to wear appropriate footwear/clothing, bring adequate food and drink and carry emergency contact details. Go to the Walks/Information for Walkers tab for more details.
