This 11-mile hike is the 7.5-mile Box Hill hike with a few extensions. We start at Ryka's Cafe at the bottom of Box Hill. Walk to the bridge / stepping stones and climb to the National Trust visitor's centre. From there, we follow the route of the Box Hill hike but extend it a mile to take in some enjoyable wooded walking and meander our way downhill and back up before rejoining the route of the Box Hill hike before the climb to the viewpoint. From there, we will take the gentle descent back to the car park at Ryka's.
There are two meeting points. The hike starts at Ryka's Cafe (Old London Rd, Dorking RH5 6BY). We will meet there at 10:15 for a 10:30 start. If you want to miss out on the first ascent and last descent, park at the National Trust car park (The Old Fort Box Hill Road, Tadworth KT20 7LB). We will pass by at 11:15. There is a wooden hut for NT members just opposite the cafe/toilets and inside the car park itself. This will take about 2 miles off the length of the route.
This is a strenuous hike despite only being 11 miles. Five good steep climbs of varying lengths and another three steady ascents. There are also one or two steep descents. There is a path which could get quite muddy, so poles are recommended if you have them.
There are toilets at the start/end (Ryka's) and at the visitors centre about two miles and nine miles into the route.
It is possible to get to the walk by public transport, Dorking or Box Hill and Westhumble stations and then a walk to Ryka's.
