A lovely walk across open countryside on the Lincolnshire/Leicestershire border using the path around Saltby airfield to link the Mowbray Way with the Viking Way.
The walk starts in Buckminster and follows the Mowbray Way by Parkside Woods to the hamlet of Sproxton. We then head north through fields to the village of Saltby where we take the footpath to follow the perimeter of Saltby airfield to join the Viking Way.
This airfield was used by the RAF and the USAAF during World War II. Nowadays part of it is still active and used by the Gliding Club. Many parts of the runways and perimeter tracks are clearly visible and we will visit the memorial.
Our route home takes us south along the Viking Way back to Buckminster.
Please bring food and drink for the usual coffee and lunch stops.
Dogs are accepted on this walk. However, they must be under tight control and on a lead at all times.
