This is a lovely walk along the river Welland, starting at the Waterton Arms, continuing through the village of Deeping St James, across the railway line which goes from Peterborough to Spalding and back to the river as it widens and turns away from Peakirk and flows to Spalding. We then cut down to the wildlife sanctuary where various birds can be seen. We double back to Deeping St James, taking in the river from the opposite direction, and cross the bridge back to the village where we can eat lunch on the benches by the river. We walk a quarter of a mile back to our cars near the Waterton Arms where those who want a drink can go into the pub.
Bring your binoculars if you want a closer view of the birds.
Bring drinks and a packed lunch.
There may be cattle and sheep on the river edge so no dogs, except assistance dogs, please.
