Leaving from the Cadw car park, we will walk part of the old wall of the ancient Roman town of Caerwent. The route then takes us out to a beautiful part of Monmouthshire countryside which is hidden between the main A48 and M48 motorway. (Despite it's location between these roads, it is very quiet and the small amount of roadwork is on minor lanes.) Our route will take us across open fields and farmland, through a racing stable and into Ifton Great Wood and Slade Wood. The second part of the walk is more open countryside and we we pass an old windmill, disused quarries and across an old golf course. Before heading back to Caerwent where we will finish the walk by visiting the fascinating remains of the old Roman Town.
We were lucky enough to see a few bluebells in the wood on the recce so hopefully !!!
