This is a linear walk, so please read the arrangements carefully! We will meet at the walk finish point in Wintringham and leave some cars there, while we drive to Thixendale to start the walk – then after the walk, we will need to get people back to Thixendale to reclaim their cars, so be aware that you are likely to need to give other people a lift at the start or end of the walk.
The walk leaves Thixendale via Water Dale and Court Dale, where we get our first views of the dry valleys that make up the Yorkshire Wolds. We pass through the village of Wharram Le Street and Settrington Woods. From the edge of the woods we are treated to long ranging views over the Vale of York. We could see York Minster on the recce! Finally, we pass the the trig point at Settrington Beacon, as we descend we can see over the Vale of Pickering to the North York Moors, before reaching our walk's end in Wintringham.
🅿️ There is a lay-by opposite Wintringham church, and on-street parking in Thixendale (please park with consideration for local residents)
🐶 Dogs are welcome, but you must make sure someone is happy to take it in their car to the start of the walk beforehand.
🍺 After the walk, we can go for a drink at the Cross Keys in Thixendale
🥪 You will need to bring a packed lunch
