Description:
A walk on mostly flat and firm surfaces, starting at the cliff-top car park in Penarth.
We will head south on the Wales Coast Path to Lavernock Point.
There will be sweeping views across the Bristol Channel to the islands of Steep Holm and Flat Holm. On a clear day, you can see the Prince of Wales Bridge.
We will pass through a small nature reserve where in 1897, Guglielmo Marconi received the first radio transmission over water from the nearby Flat Holm Island.
Our walk continues through the pretty village of Swanbridge. From here we can look across the short distance to the tidal island of Sully.
There’ll be a little road walking as we head inland towards Cosmeston Country Park with its lake.
At Cosmeston, we will have a chance to look around the reconstructed medieval village, (free entry).
We will then walk a third of a mile along the main road for refreshments at The Schooner Inn).
Anybody not wishing to walk can be dropped off in Penarth. The pick-up point at the pub is about a 40–50-minute walk south of Penarth.
