From Shelford across fields to the growing Biomedical Campus, then up Vicar’s Brook to the river Cam, which we follow along “The Backs” which should be showing autumn colours. We enter the city via Garret Hostel Lane, passing many university buildings, and leave via Bridge Street, with a picnic, café or pub lunch stop near Magdalene College. After lunch we continue along the Cam past boathouses and parkland to Cambridge North station. Alternatively, drop out in the city centre to spend more time there and walk or bus to Cambridge station.
Toilets: use toilets on train, then at Lammas Land, lunch stop, Midsummer Common and end of walk.
Lunch: picnic, cafés or pub near Magdalene Bridge.
Train: London Liverpool Street 9:28 (Cambridge North train) arrive Shelford 10:44. Buy return to Cambridge North. Return from Cambridge North to Liverpool Street.
