This walk covers undulating countryside which affords lovely views. After leaving Dane End we follow an ascending bridleway to Whitehill Golf Course. We will skirt around the golf course and head towards the ancient Roughground Wood. We will walk through the extension of Roughground Wood which was planted to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012. We then make our way via Lowgate Lane to Sacombe for a short stop at St Catherine’s Church, a 1000 year old listed building with important monuments in stone and glass, then return to Dane End via Lodge Farm.
There are several ascending and descending paths during the walk: we will walk along paths, bridleways and open fields with some stretches of road walking. One stile to negotiate.
Our walks are relaxed affairs where weather, ground conditions, people we meet along the way, views, nature, and wildlife can all affect the time a walk might take, so our end times are approximate. So please bear this in mind when joining us on one of our walks.
