A walk in two parts, almost all on good tracks and minor roads. The pace, particularly on the uphill sections, will be gentle.
First, we do a short there and back walk up to Epiacum Roman Fort and have a look round. Second, we do a circular walk (more like a lollipop really) crossing the South Tyne at Kirkhaugh Bridge to explore the remote eastern side of the river valley. Good views of the Pennines on fine days.
As the first part of the walk returns to the cafe carpark before setting off for the second part, people may choose to stay in the car park/visit the cafe until we return to make this a slightly shorter walk with less elevation.
