A circular walk on minor country roads, village pavement and field verges designated as public footpaths. Some grazing sheep. Pleasant short walk through Stoke Dry Wood.
Beginning at Reservoir car park walk up the village road until, just before the A6003, there are a designated / signed footpaths on the left (northern) side which lead northwest to Stoke Dry wood. Proceeding through the wood eventually leading to the B664 which is in Stockerston village. In about 400 meters the B664 then diverts off to the right and there is a turn off to the left which leads to the north end of the reservoir on the left. From there the left-hand turn leads to a road which accesses the waters’ north bank and then shortly leads to the point of origin Car Park below Stoke Dry Village.
Note: Before entering Stoke Dry wood there are attractive views to the south with arable fields in the foreground and views of the whole length of the reservoir in the distance. The road after the wood goes along the bank of the Reservoir and allows walkers to observe birds and waterfowl at the lakeside.
There are four stiles (in fair condition) to be climbed.
The last field of the walk is very muddy.
Registered assistance dogs are welcome, but all other dogs are discouraged due to the probability of grazing animals in some fields.
Please consider car sharing arrangements with other members to reduce the pressure on parking spots at the start of the walk.
In the event of severe weather, please contact the leader on the day of the walk to check the walk is still on
