This is an attractive walk, through undulating countryside, with some of the best views in east Leicestershire. It takes in the site of the famous Iron Age fort at Burrough Hill, as well as the pretty villages of Somerby, Burrough-on-the-Hill and Thorpe Satchville. We start by heading west from Somerby to Burrough-on-the-Hill, before turning northwards towards Thorpe Satchville. We pick up part of the Leicestershire Round, eastwards towards Burrough Hill, before swinging south back to Somerby. The walk is on field and woodland paths, with short sections on quiet lanes. The terrain is undulating, with a couple of short, steepish bits, and there are only a couple of stiles to negotiate.
Please bring a picnic lunch - we will have two or three stops during the day
This is a ‘dog friendly’ walk, with the proviso that your dog is on a lead at all times
The Stilton Cheese in Somerby should be open at the end of the walk for refreshments
Please consider car sharing arrangements with other members to reduce the pressure on parking spots at the start of the walk.
In the event of severe weather, please contact the leader on the day of the walk to check the walk is still on.
