This gently undulating walk uses paths, tracks and the occasional road in the attractive countryside to the west and south of Hungerford. After parking in the centre of Hungerford Common, we begin by heading down across the common and under the railway to join the Kennet and Avon Canal. We then follow the towpath westwards past Hungerford Wharf and Church and across Freeman's Marsh, before re-crossing the railway and heading south via North Standen House, then east past Standen Farm & Manor. After crossing the A338, we return to Hungerford via Hornhill and Sanham Green, passing through the southern outskirts of the town and then crossing Port Down on our way back to the cars.
There are two stiles on this walk, one either side of the railway crossing. The paths and tracks were in pretty good order when I did the recce, but even so there were one or two muddy patches, so it is important to come well prepared for whatever weather and underfoot conditions we may have on the day. If you would like to join this walk, please book your place online.
