Medieval writings tell of dragons associated with Bures. This circular walk tracks what remains of the evidence across the Essex/Suffolk border. Within beautiful ancient churches and the Stour Valley countryside itself, we will try to figure out the whole story. Whether or not we find actual dragons, I leave to your imagination.
Starting at Bures station we travel past Bures Mill and then via Wormingford and Wissington. We follow the Stour Valley path and come back on the St. Edmund Way. Dipping into the historic St. Stephens Chappel towards the end.
This is a circular 11 mile walk. We aim to walk at a steady 3mph.
Please bring a picnic and some good footwear as it can get muddy. Optional pub stop at the end.
