River Lee Country Park is a 1,000-acre green space stretching between Waltham Abbey in Essex and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire. Once dominated by gravel pits and industrial use, the area has been transformed into a vibrant landscape of lakes, wetlands, meadows, and woodlands. This transformation was a collaborative effort between the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority and local industries, turning former extraction sites into a haven for wildlife and recreation.
Most of the walk is on good solid paths, however we will also cross some open fields which will be muddy if there has been much rain.
We will stop for lunch at the Lee Valley White Water Centre, which has a cafe, bar, toilets and an outdoor seating area.
