This “Heritage Ramble” (formerly Megawalk) will take in the many warehouses and waterways and the museum will open especially for us at 1015 am so that we understand a bit about the significance of the location before viewing the warehouses and waterways.
Shardlow Inland Port, is a well-preserved historic canal port that was once a significant hub for trade and transport.
Established in the late 18th century at the junction of the Trent & Mersey Canal and the River Trent, it played a crucial role in the transport of goods like coal, timber, iron, cheese, wheat, and salt.
The walk will accommodate all comers and the length and route will be determined by those present at the start, but is likely to be a very leisurely 4-miler.
Jpin us afterwards at The Malt Shovel for debrief, whether you come on the walk or not.
