What better way to enjoy this high summer than with a foray through the north-east corner of Kent, sometimes called the Garden of England? We start in Bekesbourne and make our way northwards across woodland plantations and solar farms towards the Stour Valley, then skirt the edge of the Westbere Marshes along the Stour Valley Walk until we reach Grove Ferry, where we'll stop for a leisurely lunch break.
We then follow the Saxon Shore Way on north across marshy fenland until we reach the coast at Reculver Beach, where we'll have another extended break; there'll be the option of looking at the Roman fort, having a coffee, or a nipping down to the beach itself for a dip (or maybe a combination of these?) We finish by following the coastline westwards to Herne Bay.
Lunch break with pub around half way through, and further break later. Pub at the end. Please bring a packed lunch.
Travel: Take the 8:40 from Victoria, change at Faversham (arr. 9:49, dep. 9:55), arr. Bekesbourne 10:14.
Buy a return to Bekesbourne, and possibly a single from Herne Bay to Faversham for the return leg.
