Join me on this hidden gem of a walk. This circular walk is a surprisingly interesting and pleasant walk in an otherwise industrialised area on the edge of Mansfield. From Kings Mill Reservoir we will observe the wildlife on Mill Lakes and see the oldest viaduct in the UK which carried the Mansfield to Pinxton Railway. We will then follow part of the Timberland Trail towards Mansfield. This green valley passes through three local nature reserves where we will stop for coffee. We will take our lunch at Titchfield Park, an attractive urban park where there are benches. On our return we will pass the remains of several mills and walk over the Quarry Bank Viaduct affording good views of the valley and Mansfield, continuing our walk back to Kings Mill Reservoir where we will complete the circuit. The reservoir is home to a wide variety of bird life. Birds may be fed with seed (not bread). Paths are mostly good but there may be some wet and muddy stretches and walking boots are advisable. Interest points.
There are cafes at both Titchfield Park and Kings Mill Reservoir. It may be necessary to purchase an item in order to use the toilets.
Please register for this walk on Newark Ramblers website where you will also find details of our car share scheme.
