From Loch Leven’s Larder we go to the Loch Leven Heritage Trail and then Michael Bruce Way to Kinnesswood. Passing Michael Bruce’s birthplace we follow a steep path upwards to reach the side of Bishop Hill. The path becomes undulating and narrow in places. Lovely views across Loch Leven and we should be able to watch the gliders from Portmoak Airfield. The downward path brings us through Kilmagad Wood and into Scotlandwell. We will stop at the Well for lunch and those who wish can have a refreshing drink from the well. The water apparently has healing powers curing many illnesses! It is however lovely and cold. From here we go through Portmoak Moss which brings us back to the outward path. Local grade C+.
This walk is mainly flat apart from a 1.5 mile section along the side of Bishop Hill which is narrow and undulating but can be omitted. The option is to walk along the pavement between Kinnesswood and Scotlandwell, both lovely villages, and possibly visit The Michael Bruce Museum which is free of charge. Michael Bruce was a poet born in Kinnesswood who died when he was 21 years old.
Teas and coffees after the walk at Loch Leven’s Larder which not only has a cafe but a food hall, farm shop and gift shop.
