Overview

Bus and Train based walk

Meet Point: The Link Bridge Lounge for Platforms 13 and 14 at Piccadilly Station. Alternatively, meet the group on the train, or at the walk start point at Lymm Cross.

Transport to Walk Start: 09:07 train to Warrington Central from Platform 14 at Manchester Piccadilly station (final destination Liverpool).  We then transfer to the Cat-5 bus at Warrington Interchange.  Some may prefere to catch the Cat-5 service from Altrincham Interchange, which leaves at 09:32.

Suggested Ticket: The GM Wayfarer is £16.90 and will cover all trains, trams and buses within Greater Manchester and well outside, including Lymm, Leigh, and anywhere else (such as Warrington) that you need to go through to get to and from Manchester.

Walk Start: Lymm Cross at 10:40am.

Waypoints: Lymm Cross, The Bridgewater Canal, Oughtrington, Heatley, Warburton, Brook Farm, Glazebrook Green, The Glazebrook Trail via Great Woolden Moss, Light Oaks Bridge, Hurst Hall Farm, Old Field Farm, Christ Church, Leigh Bus Station

Return Services: The V1 Bus Service from Leigh departs from stand A at 16:35, 16:50, 17:05, 17:30, 18:00, and then every 30 minutes until 23:00.  The service takes you directly to Manchester City Centre, stopping outside railway stations at Salford Crescent, Salford Central and Oxford Road as well as the tram stop at St Peter’s Square.

Extra: Please use the toilet on the train. No toilets at the walk start, so instead use the facilities at Warrington Interchange. Pub stop at the George & Dragon at 9 miles. This route is part of a series of routes that link up to encircle Manchester, see www.roundmanchesterhikingtrail.co.uk for further details (this is Stage 4). Optional drinks at the end of the walk. Please do not bring your dog (apart from assistance dogs).:

This route is very flat!  The highest point is the bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal at just 30m above sea level.  There is some road walking and also a lot of walking through fields, and a lot of big open skies.  We follow Glaze Brook for a while and have the lunch break on the banks of the stream.  There is also a pub stop at about 2/3 of the way in at the George & Dragon, Glazebury.
