Overview

This walk originated from a plan to enjoy a Sunday Walk in March involving the hills and valleys of Maisemore and Ashleworth with a chance to find out what happens during a Point to Point Race.  Sadly, the Racing was cancelled due to an unprecedented amount of rain. Having since explored the area further, I found a rather lovely landscape bounded by the River Severn.

We meet at Maisemore Village Hall car park in Church Lane, Maisemore. After a couple of fields, we head from Maisemore Park to a steepish ascent up to a high ridge providing fabulous views to east and west before descending from the ridge down through farm land and on towards Ashleworth village.

At Ashleworth, we could investigate the Grade 1 listed Church of St Andrew and St Bartholomew, some of its stonework dates from Saxon times and it includes one of the earliest Royal Coat of Arms to be found .... but who does it belong to?

We then pass the massive medieval tithe Barn before stopping for lunch on the Quay. Sadly, the Boat Inn no longer exists and is now a private house, however there are still tables and seating on the river bank.  After lunch, we will follow the river Severn along its route back to Maisemore and a powerful weir before reaching our cars at Maisemore Village Hall and the possibility of refreshments at The Royal Exchange pub.
