This circular walk starts in Melbourn, a picturesque village in Cambridgeshire, rich with history and charm. We will start at the High Street car park before heading north towards Meldreth. As we leave Melbourn, we will walk alongside the river Mel, one of only 200 chalk streams in the world, most of which are in the UK.
In Meldreth, a charming village with its old cottages and tranquil atmosphere, we will pass by Topcliffe Mill, where there has been a mill since the time of the Domesday survey in 1086. We will then pass by the village’s Holy Trinity Church, a lovely medieval building.
From Meldreth, we will continue towards Shepreth, then we head southwards towards Fowlmere Nature Reserve, a highlight of the walk. The reserve, managed by the RSPB, is a peaceful haven for birdwatchers and nature lovers. From Fowlmere, the route brings us back to Melbourn.
Toilet facilities and refreshments are available at “hot numbers”, at Shepreth and further toilet facilities at Fowlmere reserve.
