Overview

A 9 mile moderate circular walk starting from the free public park opposite the George Inn in Mere. We ascend Mere Castle to enjoy wonderful views. We retrace our steps to walk through open fields, past a memorial to the crew of a WW2 Dakota airplane. We climb steeply to White Sheet Hill which gives us extensive views over the countryside. We will walk over some of the plains before gradually descending through farms and open fields. We climb again and join the Mid Wilts Way long distance trail through large fields with sheep and cattle across the plains to a gradual return to Mere on quiet tarmac roads for approx half a mile. Possible exposure to strong winds but with extensive views.
