A Wye Valley Walk

A marvelous but strenuous circular walk of 15 miles with 3 climbs. We leave the parking at Chepstow Leisure Centre and take the Wye Valley Way going northwards up the river Wye on the left hand bank. The route goes through woodlands until we cross the A466 and climb to the Eagle's Nest where there are great views of the Severn Estuary and the Severn Bridges. Then we walk further through the woods and over fields to Tintern Abbey where again we will cross the A466.  Again we cross the A466 and proceed past Tintern Parva to the Old Station Café.  Walking further we cross the River Wye at Brockweir and climb up to the Offa's Dyke Path. This is a stiff climb. Now heading south down river we will reach the Devil's Pulpit where there is a great view of Tintern Abbey. Further on through the woods until we cross the B4228 which requires us to walk along the road ( there is no pavement ) for about 200 yard before entering fields. The route from here back to Chepstow Castle is a mixture of fields and hard surface. There are 3 more road crossings.  Finally we climb up through the castle grounds to the road.The last small section is on the pavement.
