Overview

The day's steepest climb, right at the start, takes this walk onto the very highest ground touched by London's urban sprawl, where it gives way to the rolling hills of Surrey. It soon heads out onto those hills, just north of the North Downs ridge, brushing past the edge of the Big Smoke a few more times before striking out north-east into Kentish countryside.

Please bring packed lunch, pub stop at end in the wonderfully-named village of Pratt's Bottom (a mile short of the station, so please bring a torch).

Terrain: Hills, woods, fields, lanes.

Travel: Take 10:10 from London Bridge (10:28 East Croydon), arr. 10:49 Whyteleafe South (NB this is one stop AFTER Whyteleafe Station).

Use Oyster/contactless or buy two singles.
