Wordsworth may have wandered lonely as a cloud, but he'd have had his feet much more firmly on the ground had he chosen to stay closer to home and enjoy the spectacle of two of the Peak Districts finest dales. I can't promise daffodils, but we should see orchids .. and lots of them. As a bonus, every time I've led this walk we've seen dippers .. not the type that patrol busy shopping streets helping themselves to whatever you have in your pockets, but the birds. Lovely things that do a little jig when they land and feed by running underwater. Anyway, we start from near Monyash walk the full length of Lathkill Dale before tuning and coming up Bradford Dale - home of the infamous wild swimming spot. I've yet to have any takers, but the opportunity to have a dip is there. From there it's field track and back to the start and a well deserved pint at the Bulls Head
Orchids - bring a camera. Dippers - bring a camera. Wild swimmers - well probably not. Field paths that get wet and muddy, slippery limestone especially at the start. There's always cows, heffers or something largish with horns. Be aware if bringing dogs. There's toilets at the start. Car parking is very limited, but there's lots half a mile up the road in Monyash itself. Plan ahead and car share if possible, or arrive early and expect that small detour at the start.
