We are the West Berkshire Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
A 12.0 mile circular / figure of eight walk starting and finishing in the car park at Overton Hill, opposite the historic Sanctuary near West Kennett. This walk will briefly follow the Ridgeway / Sarsen Way and include elements of the Wessex Ridgeway / Green Street and the White Horse Trail. With fair weather there are enjoyable views of the vaunted Silbury Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow and Windmill Hill. The walk will include the length of "The Stone Avenue" and enters atmospheric Avebury itself.
There is approximately only 650ft of ascent / descent but no significant climbs. The route follows down-land tracks and paths with the occasional element of road walking. Understandably, there are areas of standing water which are passable with care - conditions could be very wet underfoot and the route may be subject to change on the day should dynamic risk assessment so determine. It is open to the elements being a downland walk, refreshments will be taken where shelter is accessible.
Participants are advised to wear adequate protective clothing and footwear.

Adequate car parking is available on the north side of the A4 - opposite the tumuli. The A4 is a busy road and care is required.
