Overview

The walk starts from Hengoed railway station crossing the landmark viaduct (and “Gren” tribute)  eventually joining the Rhymney Valley Ridgeway Walk which eventually leads to Machen village. From here we head to the woods of Cefn-pwll-du leading to Draethen and then a climb through further woods of Craig Ruperra. Exiting the woods we once again join the Rhymney Valley Ridgeway Walk then taking any number of routes back until we view the reservoirs of north Cardiff then an easy descent back to Lisvane railway station.
