Starting from the Fairfax Arms in Gilling East, this circular walk in the western regions of the Howardian Hills National Landscape is 9 miles long and has a total ascent of about 900 feet. Although the hills are not particularly high, there are some splendid views of the landscapes around Ampleforth, Coxwold and out towards the Vale of Mowbray. Striking off along the boundaries of Gilling Golf Course, we pass through 'The Wilderness', Yearsley Moor and the village of Yearsley, returning by Low Lions' Lodge and Park House Cottages. Toilets and refreshments are available at the pub on completion of the walk.there are a couple of sections on the walk where walking poles would be a great help
