Overview

We start by walking down the lane past the pub, eventually reaching the Rutland Water cycle track.  After a short distance we head west on a bridleway to Gunthorpe, and then continue on the Brooke.  After a short stop for refreshments, we turn eastwards on a footpath along the Gwash valley before skirting the site of Martinsthorpe (medieval village) and returning to Manton.  This is a fairly flat route on tracks and field paths, with just a couple of stiles to negotiate.

Please park courteously on St Mary’s Road or Stocks Hill (not in the pub car park). If any difficulties, there is plenty of room on the verge of Lodge Lane. When turning off the main road (A6003) onto Lyndon Road, Lodge Lane is the first turn on the right (quiet lane because it is essentially a dead end). Please share transport wherever possible in order to reduce congestion.
