This 5 mile circular walk takes us from Compton to the Ridgeway.
Advance booking is not required, but if you plan on attending this walk, please indicate this on Meetup if you can (see Website link), so others can see that there will be plenty of people going.
Pace: gentle.
Walk details
Our walk today rounds off a full year of the “Stroll Series”!
We start in the village of Compton in the Berkshire Downs where in 1882 the Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Railway was completed through the parish and Compton railway station was opened. Unfortunately, today our walk is not public transport accessible as the British Railways withdrew passenger services from the line and closed Compton station in 1962!
We head north out of Compton before heading west along the Ridgeway, taking in the stunning views as we stroll along the well trodden path. After a few miles on the Ridgeway we turn south making our way back into Compton.
