We start our walk heading out along the Cleveland Way, taking in the sweeping views until we cross Hambleton Road. We then cross the moor to Noddle End, we walk down Birk Bank to join the River Rye valley heading towards Rievaulx Abbey. At Rievaulx we rejoin the Cleveland Way and follow through Cold Kirby back to the visitor centre.
A good level of fitness is required for this walk, I will be looking to maintain a 2.5mph or 25 min mile pace. This walk is on mostly good paths, with plenty of ups and downs. It can be muddy after rain.
While this walk is dog friendly, you need to consider if your dog can do the distance and that you can carry enough water for you and your dog. If it's dry there may not be any puddles for them to drink from en route.
Due to the length we will have a couple of smaller lunch stops rather than the usual one big lunch stop. This will help keep energy levels up and consistent. Also bring plenty of snacks for between lunch stops.
You will also need to carry a minimum of 2 litres of water. More if the forecast is warm.
Minimum kit to carry regardless of forecast - waterproof coat and an extra layer. Sturdy footwear is recommended - good boots or walking trainers.
Please watch the website and Facebook event, if the weather forecast looks horrific (i.e. raining all day) then the walk will be cancelled.
Its estimated the walk will finish about 5pm.
