Overview

The Gren Way is a 3-mile route created in memory of local cartoonist "Gren" (Grenfell Jones) who died in 2007, aged 72. The route was created around 2010.  There are good views north and south from the viaduct at the start of the walk - various sheep cartoon signs mark the route to cross the Rhymney river and return to Hengoed from where the walk takes an old railway track towards fields and quarry to the Tudor Manor of Llancaiach Manor near Nelson returning via Penallta Country park  created in the 1990's after the colliery closed.
